Stephen Biko, the South African activist, highlighted the significance of managing your own narrative. Recently, I experienced a legal process where my viewpoint was overlooked. Even though I provided all the evidence, I eventually had to accept the outcome that had already been decided.

In a discussion with a lecturer, she observed that it appeared I was being left out of my own narrative. This realization was eye-opening, helping me understand that the more I attempted to defend myself, the more ammunition I gave the opposing side to use against me. Confronting coercive control alone and without support makes it difficult to protect oneself.
Nonetheless, I have kept contributing to advocacy and have also offered insights from lived experiences to support initiatives and investigations concerning sexual violence victims.
